North 2 South Charity Cycle

North 2 South Charity Cycle

North 2 South

July 2023 sees Popin's Jamie & his sister Rachael attempt the cycle from Rhosneigr, Anglesey all the way down to Cardiff. Starting the journey on the 10th July, they will look to make the trip over the course of 4 days arriving in Cardiff on the 13th July all while raising money for Mind UK.

Day #1 takes the pair from Rhosneigr, across the island to the mainland and down to Barmouth following the A487 and the A496 totalling around 67 miles for the day. After a nights rest, the pair will then set off on Day #2 with Rhayader as the destination. Racking up another 65 miles, Day #2 will see the most elevation climbed in one day for the trip totalling around 2km as they pass the Mach Loop and cross Machynlleth mountain.

Day #3 sees the shortest leg of the 4 day ride with a 40 mile stint from Rhayader over the tops of the hills and down into Brecon. Covering a shorter distance on this day will ready the legs and spirit for the final run into Cardiff on Day #4.

The final leg will take the pair from Brecon all the way through the valleys and into Cardiff finishing at the Millennium Centre in the heart of Cardiff Bay. Mainly following Cycle Route 8 and the Taff Trail, the views on the final day are set to be great! The final 60 miles of the journey will bring the grand total cycled to around 230 miles!

Who are Mind UK?

Mind is a mental health charity in England and Wales. Founded in 1946 as the National Association for Mental Health (NAMH), it celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2016.

Mind offers information and advice to people with mental health problems and lobbies government and local authorities on their behalf. It also works to raise public awareness and understanding of issues relating to mental health. Since 1982, it has awarded an annual prize for "Book of the Year" having to do with mental health, in addition to three other prizes. Since 2008 Mind has hosted the annual Mind Media Awards, celebrating the best portrayals and reporting of mental health across the media.

Around 125 local Mind associations (independent, affiliated charities) provide services such as supported housing, floating support schemes, care homes, drop-in centres and self-help support groups. They are each governed by their own board of trustees and raise their own funds to deliver services, including commonly through providing services on behalf of local authorities.
